Twinsie Tuesday- Revisited

Hi friends! Today's Twinsie Tuesday theme is revisiting a past challenge that we particularly enjoyed. I went with polka dots, since I never get sick of doing those- the color combinations are endless and it's such an easy effect to create!

For my dotticure today, I used Duri "The World Is Mine" for the base color. I used "On The Wild Side" for the green dots and "Think Out Loud" for the hot pink:

This color combo reminds me of Strawberry Shortcake (the doll!)  ;-)

Check in with the other Twinsies to see which challenge they revisited:

Different Dimension Nail Polish (Pictures, Swatches, Review)

Products in this post were provided for review.

Good morning, fellow nail polish hoarders!  Today I have 3 polishes from the indie brand Different Dimension to share with you. I had a great experience with these polishes- the formulas on these are all fabulous and the colors are super cool to boot.

First up is Excelsior, a white-gray holographic polish. Um, this color is freakin' fantastic! It's a nice neutral color, but the holographic quality makes it so fun. This is immediately making it into my "Top 10" list of 2013- it's that special. I'm gonna need multiples of this! 2 layers shown here.

Next, I topped the lovely Excelsior with the glitter, To Infinity And Beyond (inspired by Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story, of course!). This glitter has a clear base with neon green, holographic green, white, and purple glitters. It also glows in the dark, however I did not get a good picture of that :)

Last, we have Reach For The Sky, the second half of the Toy Story inspired duo. I loved that when I showed this to my 5 year old son and told him the name of it, he instantly said- "Oh, like Woody!!". He recognized the phrase immediately, and noted that this is the color of Woody's shirt. Major props to Missi, the brand creator for totally nailing it!  This has a jelly yellow base with a mix of large and small red glitters and some larger yellow squares. So cute! 3 layers shown:

These beauties can be found here on Different Dimension's Etsy Shop, along with tons of other gorgeous offerings too! Like them on Facebook for all the latest updates on collections as well!

Duri Showstopper Spring/Summer Collection (Nail Polish Pictures, Swatches, Review)

Products in this post were provided for review.

I'm SO very excited to show you these polishes today- Duri Cosmetics is a company that is new to me, and let's just say I plan on getting more well acquainted with them soon- their polish is fantastic.

First, here's One Of A Kind, a light, almost white-pink creme with lilac undertones. I cannot stress ENOUGH how flawlessly this applied. Silky, creamy, and opaque with little to no streaks. Simply wonderful. (2 layers)

Next up is The World Is Mine, a medium "Barbie" pink creme. Again, this applied fantastically. (2 layers)

Ooooh- then we have Think Out Loud, a bold & vibrant "blossoming pink". Hot, hot, HOT! (2 layers)

On The Wild Side is a super springy "acid limeade" (-Duri's description, which is PERFECT!). Awesome application on this one as well. (2 layers)

Next up, Amore And More, a "vibrant poppy red". I'm obsessed with this color for Summer!  This one has more of a jelly-ish/creme formula. SUPER shiny! (2 layers)

Last we have What A Keeper, a deep blue-purple with a shimmer. I love the idea of wearing this shade with a (faux) tan.  Such a beaut:
And, yeah- here's a shimmer shot. Seriously, how awesome is this?

Final thoughts: Wow. How have I not tried this brand before? I loved the brushes on these polishes- they are not too big or too small, and when coupled with Duri's fantastic formula, they apply effortlessly. Well done, Duri!

Twinsie Tuesday: Oldest Untried

It's Tuesday! Today's Twinsie theme is "Oldest Untried" and for me, that's OPI Lazy Daisy Pink. This is an older "black label" OPI that came out quite awhile ago. I've had it sitting in my untried box and I was so happy to finally have a good reason to wear her today:

While rummaging through that untried box of polish, I also came across Seche Collage Overlay, a glitter mix of bars, holo hexes, and large white hexes. Naturally, I had to put this on top, killing 2 untireds at oncce!

Don't forget to check in with the other Twinsies....I wonder which polish has been hanging out in their untried pile the longest??

OPI Couture de Minnie Collection- New! (Nail Polish Pictures, Swatches, Review)

Products in this post were provided for review.

Hi friends! Today I have polishes from OPI's upcoming Couture de Minnie collection to share with you!

From OPI's press release:

“Last summer, OPI created a ‘Vintage Minnie Mouse’ line. Women around the world fell in love with the fun and playful shades evocative of Minnie’s traditional look,” explains Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director.  “This year, OPI is exploring a different side of Minnie Mouse. The Couture de Minnie collection draws inspiration from Minnie’s iconic style and incorporates trends most recently seen on the runways, from standout shades to fun textural elements.”

First, here's Chic From Ears To Tail, a creamy, bubblegum pink with ever so faint shimmer flecks hidden within. Formula was good- just a tad on the sheer side, so I did 3 layers here:

Then I topped 'Chic...' with the glitter from this collection, Minnie Style. I am always the most excited about the glitters, and this one did not disappoint me. A clear base with white and pinky-red hex glitters, this certainly goes with the Minnie theme perfectly. Bonus- this glitter was easy to work with...not a ton of "placing" necessary:

Next is the warm, hot pink-fuchsia shade called A Definite Moust-Have.  This one has a creamy base with a wink of shimmer running through it. 2 layers here:

Then there's Innie Minnie Mighty Bow, a sexy red shimmer that applied beautifully!  I used 3 layers in this photo, but in "real life" you would probably only need 2:

Last we have the Liquid Sand polish named Magazine Cover Mouse. This texture and color reminded me of strawberry jam. 2 layers:

Final thoughts: I loved all 5 of these, with Innie Minnie Mighty Bow and Magazine Cover Mouse being my favorites.  These are some great pinks and reds to grab if your collection is lacking those colors (mine definitely is lacking in the red department!). The glitter is fairly unique (perfect for Valentine's Day!) and if you read my blog, you already know I'm a Liquid Sand/texture fan!  Nothing wears longer on your nails than a textured polish, so this is a great choice if you aren't someone who likes to change your polish every other day.

Some parting words from OPI:

Couture de Minnie nail lacquers each feature OPI’s exclusive ProWide Brush for the ultimate in application. Liquid Sand lacquers should always be worn without top coat. This limited edition promotion will be available beginning June 2013 at professional salons, including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard’s, jcp Salons, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, ULTA and ulta.com for $9.00 ($10.95 CAN) suggested retail for each nail lacquer.
For more information, please call 800-341-9999 or visit www.opi.com. Follow OPI on Twitter @OPI_PRODUCTS and become a Facebook fan!

Will you be picking any 'Minnies' up??

Leopard Nail Art With China Glaze

Listen. I love leopard print. It takes over my life and my nails at times- here's yet another way to get your leopard on:

  • Step 1- Paint your nails with a base coat
  • Step 2- Chose a base color to do a fade/gradient with (I used China Glaze Pink Plumeria). Start with barely any polish on the brush, and apply it half way up and to the end of your nails. Once it's mostly dry, go back with that same color on only the very top half of your nail to make it slightly more opaque than the rest of your nail.
  • Step 3- Using a nail art brush or a bobby pin/dotting tool, paint some random spots on (I used China Glaze Desert Sun and topped it with the glitter I Herd That)
  • Step 4- Outline the spots with black (Don't completely encase the spots in black, leave some open)
  • Step 5-Apply a few random drops of black to fill in the empty spaces
  • Step 6- After allowing your design to dry COMPLETELY, finish with top coat. The dry time is essential so that the design doesn't smudge.

Here's what you'll get:

Have you tried leopard nails yet? What color combo would you do?

Thanks for stopping by!

Twinsie Tuesday: Fishtail Nails

Happy Tuesday to you! We have 3 new Twinsies joining us- Welcome Traci, Lakeisha, and Kelly!!

Our theme this week is "Fishtail Mani", which is typically a technique that gives a fishtail braid effect. It looks complicated, until you watch a Youtube tutorial on it (there are tons of good ones) and then, if you are like me, you find yourself saying, "I can do that!". Then I tried. Let's just say, my brain does not process the whole "braid" thing well (I am awful at hair braiding too!). After a few attempts, I settled on an accent fishtail nail. The key is choosing 3 colors that are pretty opaque on their own. I used Zoya Julie (lavender), China Glaze Hang Ten Toes (hot pink), and Sally Hansen Celeb City (silver) for this:

Don't forget to see what the other Twinsies did for this theme!

Rock Your Hair by Michael O'Rourke Product Review

Products in this post were provided for review.

Today's post is about something new for me- hair products! I had the opportunity to review 6 products from the "Rock Your Hair" by Michael O'Rourke line. These all are aimed to give you full, voluminous locks.

A little bit about the brand from their website:

"Based in Malibu, California, Rock Your Hair is the latest big thing in the world of professional hair care. Designed by the founder of Big Sexy Hair, LA celebrity stylist Michael O’Rourke, Rock Your Hair delivers big volume and endless styling capabilities combining ingredient technologies that protect and repair hair from damage brought on by flat irons and chemical processes. All products are sulfate and paraben free and safe for all hair types."

First off, I have to talk about this packaging. The box shown above is what they were housed in- pink leopard?! Sign me up. Each of the products have these little, blinged-out crystal heart designs on them too. Totally fun!

Here's a breakdown of my experience with each:

Rock Your Hair Shampoo- this shampoo lathered nicely (I sometimes find this not true of sulfate free shampoos). Lather is very important to me...it makes me feel like I am actually getting things clean. The shampoo has a nice, fresh scent. Nothing too overpowering.

Rock Your Hair Conditioner- this "weightless conditioner" truly did feel weightless in my hair, a good thing, since my hair is naturally fine. I don't need anything weighing it down, making it even limper! Again, this had a nice soft, fresh scent.

Rock Your Hair Miracle Leave In Conditioner- this leave in conditioner is great. I had not been using one, but I really think that my hair needed this in the worst way. I color my hair (nothing too intense, just covering grays) and this product helps to retain moisture that is stripped away by those chemicals. You spray it in damp, towel dried hair from root to ends and comb through. As a bonus, if you are tangle-prone, this helps with that too!

Rock Your Hair Size Matters Big Volume Root Lift- Um, this is so cool. A spray in, mousse-type product that you spray at your roots for lift (prior to blow drying your hair). An amazing bonus? It's humidity resistant, so that your volume won't deflate as soon as you step outside on a warm day.

Rock Your Hair Spray It Hard Big Volume Hairspray- I have a hard time finding a hairspray that I love. Either I choose one that is too light and my hair doesn't hold AT ALL, or I pick one that is so intense, it gives me helmet head (complete with a nice white residue- yuck). Spray It Hard is that perfect medium. It holds the hell out of my hair in any style, whether it be a pulled back voluminous ponytail, or if I just need to calm fly aways when I am wearing it down. The scent on this is similar to the rest of the products in this line- fresh, light, and clean.

And last but not least, -- Rock Your Hair Bombshell Big Hair Powder- Billed as "backcomb in a bottle", this powder is a really cool product. You sprinkle it directly on the roots of your hair in the areas you want more volume, and it instantly lifts. If you have thin hair like I do, you know that feeling of your hair being "too clean", don't you? That type of hair that is too clean to hold any style? This helps give your hair that "2nd day" feeling, but with fresh hair  (did that make any sense? hahaha)

Ok, now some pictures of my hair. I realized after doing this that I am no expert on taking pictures of my own hair, but here is my before and after anyway.  On the left (or, green shirt if you are viewing this on mobile) is how my hair normally is after I wash and blow dry it. As I said before, it is super fine and super straight.  On the right (pink shirt) is me after I used the products from the Rock Your Hair line. You can see that my roots have a bit more lift, and that my hair is generally more "full" looking. I found that it was much easier to style my hair after using the Rock Your Hair line as well- things just 'held' better.

Selfie in the bathroom mirror? OK :P (Yes, I am a total dork...I don't get out much!)

Final thoughts: I was really impressed with this line. I admit, when I've seen this product in salons and beauty supplies before, what drew me in initially was the packaging- I am a true sucker for anything pink and blingy!  It was great to experience this line and learn that they also have an amazing product inside those cute bottles!  I am certainly impressed!

Rock Your Hair products can be purchased on their website here: http://www.rockyourhair.com/

Have you ever tried anything from this line before? What did you think?

Zoya Irresistible Collection For Summer 2013! (Pictures, Swatches, Review)

Products in this post were provided for review.

Today I have the second half of Zoya's Summer collection to share with you! (See their Stunning collection here).

The Irresistible collection is comprised of 6 shimmery polishes with a  "foil metallic" finish.  Usually these aren't my favorites (the finish just never looks "right" on me- I much prefer the cremes we saw in the Stunning collection), but I fell in lust with a few of these.

First, here's Kerry, a bright, sunshine yellow foil. Really pretty and happy, this reminds me of a summer version of Ziv. This is a bit sheer, but builds easily. 3 layers shown here:

Next we have Amy. This one is SO juicy! I would describe this as a blood orange metallic. Super summery. 3 layers shown:

Then there's Tinsley, a rose metallic with gold flecks. This one was on the thicker side, and was more difficult to put on for me. 3 (thick) layers shown here:

Next is Bobbi, and she is one that I fell instantly for. A super saturated, rich shade of berry metallic. HOT! 2 layers for this one, and the formula was perfect:

Then we have Rikki, a medium minty green foil with a great formula. Green is not my favorite polish color, but this shiny one is a beauty! 2 layers shown here:

I saved my favorite for last- Hazel. Damn. I didn't expect to love this one so much. Zoya says this is a "blue green foil", but at first glance I thought it was blue with gold flecks. Either way, it's mirror-like finish has me hypnotized. 2 layers:

Which one is your favorite??  You can purchase the Irresistible collection from Zoya's Website!
